Today marks the start of Oktoberfest in Germany! Why not has your own celebration? Break out the Big Green Egg and grill up some brats (soaked in a beer bath first of course) and eat up!
What you’ll need
- A good hearty dark beer
- Red onion slices
- Crumbled bacon
- Good bratwurst
- One stick butter
- Hardwood chunk charcoal
- Fill your Egg with hardwood charcoal & open the draft door. Once you’ve lit the coals and a few are burning, heat until Egg reaches 350° F.
- Place the brats and butter in a foil ban. Pour enough beer in the pan to cover the brats. Use sauerkraut, red onion slices & bacon as flavoring for the bath.
- Heat the pan on the grill until the beer simmers. Continue to simmer for up to 15 minutes. You’re looking for the internal temperature of the brats to reach 160° F with a meat thermometer.
- Remove the pan from the grill and place the brats on the grill. Grill until browned on all sides. You can return the brats to the beer bath and place back on the Egg to keep them moist until ready to serve, or just eat up!
Serve up with a great beer, plenty of fixin’s, and a good German potato salad wouldn’t hurt.
